BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Eighteen-year-old Guo
Yue retained her women's singles crown at the Croatian Open in Zagreb, beating
Chinese national teammate Wang Nan in full seven games, the ITTF said on its
website on Sunday.
At the grand final on Saturday evening, Guo Yue won 11-6, 11-9,2-11, 11-13, 11-7, 8-11, 11-4 for her fourth
singles title of career on the ITTF Pro Tour.
She won her first in 2003 at the Japan Open, then in
2005 at the China Open and again in 2006 in the first two tournaments of the
year.
Guo Yue also won both the Slovenia Open and at the
Croatia Open.
For the Chinese left-handed duo, it was their ninth
meeting in the world ranking events, and Guo Yue has now reduced the deficit to
one.
Their first meeting was in May 2003 at the World
Championships in the quarter-finals when Wang Nan won in six games, the second
was in September of the same year when Guo Yue prevailed at the quarter-final
stage of the the Japan Open.
Guo Yue also prevailed in the next duel, the
quarter-finals of the Danish Open in November 2003 but then her run of successes
was halted as Wang Nan won in seven games in the final at the Greek Open in
February 2004 and later in the same year at the penultimate stage at the
Singapore Open.
They met on one more occasion in 2004 at the Pro Tour
Grand Finals in Beijing when victory went the way of Guo Yue on her inexorable
path to the title.
However, prior to the meeting in Zagreb that was the
last success Guo Yue enjoyed. In February 2005, Wang Nan won at the semi-final
stage of the Qatar Open and in the final of the China Open in June 2006.
Five wins to Wang Nan and four to Guo Yue prior to
the Croatian Open 2007, now it is still five wins to Wang Nan but it is four to
Guo Yue.
