BANGKOK, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Security will be tighten up and local fans have
been urged to remain calm during the ASEAN Football Championship final match
between Thailand and Singapore to be held on Sunday in Bangkok, according to
English newspaper Bangkok Post Saturday
Security will be tighten up in the stadium during the match day, with 600
police officers presence and soldiers from the First Region Army, owing to a
spat between the two national teams on a controversial penalty at an earlier
match in Singapore, the newspaper said.
Plainclothes police will also be in place to ensure security for
organizers, match referees and players of both teams, Bangkok's Metropolitan
Police Commissioner Viroj Chantharangsi said, adding that special protection
will be provided for the Singaporean players as they requested.
Fans will be searched with bomb scanners and metal
detectors. Objects that could be used as weapons such as bottles, cans and
lighters will not be allowed to be carried by them, Viroj said, warning we
"don't allow politics to get involved in sports."
